CALL FOR ENTRY

2009 Joseph Plaskett Award.

Ongoing Call for Entry

Website: www.joeplaskett.com

It is with pleasure that I announce the competition for the 2009 Joseph Plaskett Award.

This award honors excellence in painting by providing $25,000 for travel, studio work or study in Europe for one year. Criteria for eligibility and FAQ are available to candidates on the website.

The Royal Canadian Academy (RCA) has partnered with the Joseph Plaskett Foundation to administer the award starting in 2009, so that every cent possible ends up in the hands of emerging artists. We hope over time new donors will come forward to create similar awards for other disciplines such as sculpture and photography. The jury takes place annually in different parts of Canada. This year's jury will be led by Chris Cran at the Alberta College of Art and Design, and the recipient will be announced at the RCA Annual General Assembly in June in Calgary.

I seek your help in notifying teaching colleagues and your most accomplished MFA painters as applications are due according to the website guidelines by March 31st. Students who have recently graduated with their MFA are also invited to apply and I hope you will reach out to them on our behalf.

We are aiming to send schools a package of small posters soon, but as this effort is behind schedule. I would appreciate your efforts in directing all of your MFA painters to the website as soon as possible for their applications: http://www.joeplaskett.com
